COMMUNITY PROGRAMS - School Outreach Programs

SCHOOL PROGRAMS
Education is imperative for individuals to make informed choices about healthcare, and life in general.  We have found that students are very interested in organ donation and often have a lot of questions inspired by fictional media.  Tennessee Donor Services offers a comprehensive educational program to inform high school students about this national health crisis:  the shortage of organs and tissues available for transplant.  Our school programs give foundational knowledge about organ and tissue donation, enabling them to make an educated decision about becoming a donor.  We hope you will join us.  If you are a teacher and would like to schedule a program for your class, please contact  your local TDS office.

High School Programs
High School students are at an age of discovery and decision--and are often misled with incorrect information.  When they apply for their driver's license or permit, teens will be asked if they are an organ donor (they must have a parent sign the application as well); so it is very important that students (and parents) are well informed.  TDS conducts hundreds of programs for high schools each year.  Presentations are adapted to suit various classes such as Driver's Education, Health & Wellness, and Health Occupations, to name a few.  Speakers include donor family members, recipients or staff and are augmented by our library of educational videos and interactive, fun and inspiring activities.   The program also encourages students to discuss the topic of donation with their families.

Middle/Elementary School Programs
Our various regions offer different programs age-appropriate to middle and elementary school students.  These fun events are designed to introduce the topic of organ donation and transplantation, with focus on the function of the organs--not on donation.

TDS in Nashville, Knoxville and Chattanooga offer "Kids on the Block" puppet programs for grades 5-8.

Mountain Region Donor Services in the Tri-Cities TN/VA area offers "Leap for Life"--a puppet program designed for children in grades K-5 (but can also be used with older students).
